Data centers nowadays are the core of most businesses but finding suitable software to manage one is not an easy task, especially when different industries have different requirements. As data centers have become increasingly complex, the need for effective management tools has also grown. Capitalizing on over 30 years of experience in data center management, Newtech has launched the proprietary iNAV system – a Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software that caters to all.

Data center infrastructure management (DCIM) is the convergence of IT and building facilities functions within an organization, with the goal of providing administrators with a holistic view of a data center’s performance so that energy, equipment, and floor space are used as efficiently as possible. At Newtech, we offer a powerful DCIM solution that helps data center operators run efficient operations while improving infrastructure design planning.

What is DCIM?

DCIM is used to measure, monitor, and manage the IT equipment and supporting infrastructure of data centers. It provides real-time data on power consumption, temperature, humidity, and other critical metrics, enabling data center operators to make informed decisions about how to optimize their operations. DCIM software can be hosted on premises or in the cloud, depending on the needs and preferences of the organization.

How does iNAV DCIM work?

The application is made up of eight modules including Asset, Rack Capacity, Change, Network, Energy, Power Quality, Main Plant and Environment Management. Devices within each segment are showcased in a 3D format on screen for easy monitoring. Robust support is provided via iNAV DCIM to bridge the gap between IT and facilities management. The combination of modules can be customized according to individual company’s need. iNAV DCIM is compatible with third party software ensuring a smooth transfer of data during the integration process.

Asset Management

The Asset Management module monitors a data center’s IT equipment through online inventory stock taking and display of each IT equipment’s allocation and utilization, including the machine’s brand, model, host name, and operating system. This module is also capable of providing U-Level Asset Management to monitor unauthorized changes through a Smart Rack Tag.

Rack Capacity Management

Rack Capacity Management plans and optimizes infrastructure to match the data center’s capabilities. Customers will be able to view fine details including rack space, power, and cooling consumption of each machine via a click of the mouse.

The third main module – Change Management – fully integrates workflow management for the change of IT equipment including creating work orders through the Submit – Approve- Action procedure. This module also enables the generation of tasks to move, add or change IT equipment automatically.

Network Management

Network Management provides an overview of a data center’s network paths and their interconnections, and provides guided input to reduce human error, while Energy, Power Quality, Main Plant and Environment Management monitors the surroundings of the center to ensure the effective smooth-running of the facility.

Cable Management

iNAV DCIM also offers advanced features in addition to the basic eight modules, such as Cable Management. This module implements, manages and maintains structured cabling systems for copper, fiber-optic or coaxial-cable networks, offering a comprehensive and detailed documentation, labelling, records, drawings, work orders, reports, and other administrative functions of the cabling networks.

Why is DCIM important for data center operators?

Data center operators face a number of challenges, including rising energy costs, equipment failures, and the need to meet regulatory compliance requirements. DCIM software helps address these challenges by providing a comprehensive view of the data center’s performance. This enables data center operators to identify inefficiencies and make informed decisions about how to optimize their operations. By using DCIM software, data center operators can reduce energy consumption, improve equipment utilization, and increase uptime.

Key Features of iNAV DCIM

iNAV DCIM is designed to provide data center operators with real-time data on critical performance metrics, including power usage, cooling efficiency, and equipment utilization. Our software is highly customizable, allowing organizations to tailor it to their specific needs and preferences. Some of the key features of our iNAV DCIM solution include:

Real-time monitoring

Our DCIM provides real-time data on critical performance metrics, enabling data center operators to make informed decisions about how to optimize their operations.

Customizable dashboards

Our DCIM allows organizations to create customized dashboards that display the data that is most relevant to their operations.

Equipment tracking

Our DCIM tracks the location and status of IT equipment, enabling data center operators to quickly locate and diagnose equipment issues.

Predictive analytics

Our DCIM uses predictive analytics to identify potential issues before they become major problems, enabling data center operators to take proactive measures to prevent downtime.

Benefits of iNAV DCIM

Increased uptime

Monitoring equipment and constructing reports on gathered data helps an organization determine its data center health and if any equipment needs to be replaced.

Capacity management

Features found in DCIM software help organizations model and allocate space for new hardware and equipment and manage their power chain.

Proactive incident management

Real-time management features give facility managers insight into the state of their data centers now and into the future.

Energy management

DCIM enables organizations to measure their energy consumption for all IT-related equipment. This insight helps them to reduce energy usage and costs.

Improved productivity

DCIM enables IT departments to monitor across multiple locations remotely. This is extremely beneficial for edge data centers where automated alerts can help IT track physical and logical components and warn of component failures.

Interactive Voice Response System Manager for DCIM

Newtech also provides Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) Manager. High level of precise monitoring, alerts and numerous sensors are the gatekeepers of your data center infrastructure.

IVRS Manager is a real-time automated synchronization with iNAV DCIM. It consists of software applications, database, supporting infrastructure, and telephony technology with self-service call segmentation, information collection, route calls, and text with recipient acknowledgment.

IVRS Manager has a simple architecture which provides pre-recorded voice responses, keypad signal logic, relevant data and situations accessibility, voice input record, and alarm signals delivery.

Benefits of IVRS Manager

IVRS Manager allows simple and smart management over your critical environment. Key benefits include:

  • Time-stamped call log for dedicated recipients with response recognition
  • Instant message acknowledgment
  • Multi-level platform setting for different levels of recipients’ prioritization
  • Pre-customized signals for all-rounded aspects
  • Retry protocol and implementation of recipient block list for poor signal, busy tone, and network failure
  • Programmable routing for delivering voice alarms
  • Hunting line algorithm on dial-out
  • Missed calls message acknowledgment
  • Interface for receiving alarms in SNMP traps, SMTP emails, or SMS message
  • Stand-alone communication system or with iNAV DCIM integration
